The Hive: Bringing the AI Community Together for Innovation that Matters
As the future of AI is discussed in multiple formats, rooms and channels, it is clear driving positive outcomes with AI benefits from collaboration across disciplines, sectors and communities. Where researchers meet entrepreneurs, policymakers meet technologists, and young innovators share ideas with experienced practitioners, genuine enthusiasm builds.
That is the spirit behind The Hive.
Taking place on the evening of Tuesday, 7 July 2026, The Hive is a community-led side event hosted by the Young AI Leaders Community (YAIL) in partnership with the Geneva Network of Innovators (ge-ni) and Geneva Macro Labs, with the afterparty supported by Si Labs. Held at the inspiring SDG Solution Space at Campus Biotech, the evening provides an open, inclusive environment for conversations that continue long after the day’s formal Summit programme concludes.
Why Community Matters in the Age of AI
Artificial intelligence is transforming every aspect of society, from healthcare and education to climate science, manufacturing, public services and scientific discovery. Yet while the technology advances at remarkable speed, one of the greatest challenges remains deeply human: ensuring AI serves people and contributes positively to society.
Technology alone does not create impact. Communities do.
The most meaningful innovation happens when diverse groups of people come together to share knowledge, challenge assumptions, test new ideas and build relationships based on trust. Open collaboration accelerates learning, encourages responsible innovation and creates opportunities that would rarely emerge in isolation.
Geneva has long played a unique role as a convening point for international cooperation, making it a natural home for conversations about how AI can advance the Sustainable Development Goals and address global challenges.
The Hive seeks to contribute to this ecosystem by creating space not only for presentations, but for participation.
From Conversations to Collaboration
Rather than following a traditional conference format, The Hive has been designed as an interactive community experience.
Doors open at 17:00 with welcome drinks and informal networking, allowing participants to reconnect after the first day of the Summit and meet new collaborators across disciplines.
At 17:30, members of the Young AI Leaders Community are invited to share brief flash announcements: an opportunity for local hubs, projects and initiatives to showcase opportunities, celebrate milestones and invite participation.
The evening then moves into a high-level panel featuring voices from across the AI for Good ecosystem. The discussion will explore both the opportunities and responsibilities accompanying the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, examining how innovation can remain aligned with human values and public benefit.
The panelists for the discussion are:
- Stephen Ibaraki, founder of AI for Good
- Chiara Debenedetti, Global Head of Data and Analytics, International Committee of the Red Cross
- Ansgar Koene, Global AI Ethics and Regulatory Leader, EY.
Following the panel, the programme deliberately shifts from listening to participating.
Beginning at 18:45, participants will organise themselves into unconference sessions around topics they care about most. Rather than predetermined agendas, attendees propose discussion themes on the evening itself, creating dynamic breakout conversations driven by the interests and expertise present in the room.
This format encourages genuine knowledge exchange and often leads to unexpected collaborations between people who may never have otherwise met.
Sharing Ideas Without Selling
Community events work best when everyone feels able to contribute.
Throughout the evening, participants are invited to share papers, research, prototypes, open-source tools, projects or emerging ideas through short “Brain Snacks” beginning at 21:00.
The concept is intentionally simple:
Bring something you’re excited about. Share it in a few minutes. Inspire someone else.
The only rule is equally straightforward: no sales pitches.
Removing commercial pressure creates a more authentic environment where curiosity, learning and collaboration take centre stage.
Celebrating the Human Side of Innovation
Innovation ecosystems are built as much through informal conversations as structured programmes.
After dinner, the rooftop terrace opens for an evening of music and networking, featuring “Dance like an A.I.”, a live DJ performance by The Stereoteller feat. FiloQ, accompanied by curated wines courtesy of Si Labs.
Participants are free to move between rooftop conversations and indoor breakout spaces, continuing discussions sparked throughout the evening.
Because meaningful collaboration often begins with a simple conversation.
AI for Positive Social Purpose
The Hive also reflects a broader movement within the AI community: using artificial intelligence as a tool for public good.
Around the world, AI is already helping researchers accelerate medical discoveries, improving disaster response through predictive modelling, supporting farmers with climate-smart agriculture, enhancing accessibility for people with disabilities, reducing energy consumption in cities, protecting biodiversity through environmental monitoring and expanding educational opportunities through personalised learning.
These examples demonstrate that AI’s greatest value lies not merely in automation or efficiency, but in augmenting human capability to solve complex societal challenges.
Realising this potential requires more than technical excellence.
It requires ethical leadership, inclusive participation, interdisciplinary collaboration and sustained dialogue between developers, policymakers, civil society, academia and industry.
Communities like YAIL exist to help foster precisely these connections.
By empowering emerging AI leaders across different countries and backgrounds, they help ensure that the future of artificial intelligence reflects a broader diversity of experiences, perspectives and ambitions.

Capacity is intentionally limited to around 60 in-person participants, helping preserve the collaborative atmosphere, while the opening session, community announcements and panel discussion are planned to be streamed for members and friends joining remotely.
